Choose a city

The Cornish town of Penzance is an ideal base for exploring the Penwith area of this wonderful county. With some of the best coastline in the UK and a developing commercial centre, the town is well worth a visit. Penzance is also the home of the major links to and from the beautiful Isles of Scilly. In no particular order, here are our suggestions for things to do in Penzance:

Minack Theatre

The Minack Theatre is an extraordinary open air theatre carved into the Cornish cliffs. What is even more amazing is the fact that it was built largely by one woman, Rowena Cade, in the 1930's. It truly is a memorable place. Admission is £2.50 for adults and £1 for the children every day from 9.30am to 5.30pm. For more information call 01736 810810 or go to www.minack.com

Merry Maidens Stone Circle

This 24 metre stone circle contains nineteen stones, each of which represent maidens that were turned to stone according to tradition. Restored in the 1860s, this is one of the most famous sites in Cornwall and well worth a visit. The site can be found just off the B3315 near Penzance.

Pendeen Lighthouse

Pendeen Lighthouse is one of the most dramatic lighthouses in the county sitting majestically on a wonderful stretch of Cornwall coastline. The imposing building is a great place to look out for seals, kestrels and other wildlife. On a clear day you can see for miles and miles.
