Choose a city

by Justine Hayward

Paris may be the city of romance but there is so much more to this wonderful city. The French capital has something for everyone, from amazing historic buildings to some of the best shopping in the world. Here are some suggestions for things to do in Paris:

Eiffel Tower

Built for the 1889 World Fair and to celebrate the centenary of the 1789 Revolution, the Eiffel tower is just as impressive as it ever was. The 300-metre tower was the tallest structure in the world until New York’s Empire State Building stole the crown in the 1930s. The building itself is wonderful but the views from the top are truly spectacular.

Centre Pompidou

The fascinating Pompidou Centre is home to a vast public library as well as the Musée National d'Art Moderne. The building is also a centre for music and acoustic research. The centre holds the largest collection of modern art in Europe with over 50,000 works of art by more than 5,000 artists. One of the most visited attractions in Paris. Highly recommended.

Champs-Élysées

Known in France as "The most beautiful avenue in the world", the Champs-Élysées is one of the most famous streets in the world. The celebrated avenue of cafes, cinemas and luxury shops is the shopping heart of Paris. Wonder down the tree lined streets or go mad in the expensive stores. No trip to Paris would be complete without visiting the Champs-Élysées.

The Louvre

The Louvre is probably the most famous museum in the world and it's easy to see why. Not only does it house some of the most celebrated art in history but the building itself is an architectural marvel. As well as the Mona Lisa and many other well know paintings, the Louvre also contains thousands of treasures from practically every county and civilization in the world. Amazing.

More city attractions

Why not brave the marathon journey and take a trip down under. There are so many superb things to do in Sydney and the cultural attractions in Melbourne are worth the flight ticket alone.

You could also take a flight over the Atlantic and visit the United States of America. From the sun-kissed attractions of Miami to the entertaining tourist attractions in Los Angeles, you won't be short of things to do.

And finally, if you want to spend your holidays somewhere a little different, there's no place better than South America. The exciting attractions in Rio and the interesting things to see in Buenos Aires will leave you coming back for more.
