Nebraska lies near the centre of the United States on the Great Plains of the Midwest. The state has become one of the county's leading farming and ranching territories. Nebraska is considerably larger than England but is home to less than 2 million people. In no particular order, here are our suggestions for things to do in and attractions in Nebraska:

The Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha features the world's largest indoor tropical rainforest as well as several other terrific exhibits. The nocturnal area, Kingdoms of the Night, is worth the entrance fee alone. Highly recommended.

Omaha is the largest city in Nebraska, and offers everything you would expect from a major US city. The city is also something of a cultural hub with the Holland Performing Arts Center and the free Shakespeare on the Green festival which takes place in late June.

The state capital, Lincoln, is well worth a few hours of your holiday schedule. Enjoy stunning views from the top of the State Capitol building and then see the largest mammoth in the country at the University of Nebraska State Museum.

The Strategic Air & Space Museum is a superb attraction with a world class collection of aircraft and weaponry. Great for little boys and big boys alike.

Scotts Bluff National Monument is a prominent Nebraskan landmark set in 3,000 acres of majestic countryside. The monument museum features exhibits about the history of the area as well as a collection of paintings by William Henry Jackson.
