Choose a city

Mumbai, or Bombay as it was formerly known, is an incredible Indian city full of amazing sights, sounds and smells. It may be too intense for some people, but most travelers leave having had one of the best experiences of their lives. In no particular order, here are our suggestions for things to do in Mumbai:

Gateway of India

The Gateway of India was built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to India in 1911. This amazing yellow archway was originally made from papier-mâché before being converted to stone in 1927. This is one of Mumbai's most famous landmarks and one of the most striking symbols of India's colonial past.

Mumbadevi Temple

Mumbadevi Temple is amongst the most attractive temples in the city. Mumbadevi was the goddess of the Kilo people, Mumbai's aboriginal inhabitants. A wonderful cultural attraction and one not to be missed on any trip to this fine Indian city.

Opening hours of the temple are from 5am-noon and 4pm-8pm every day of the week.

St Thomas’ Cathedral

St Thomas' Cathedral was the first Anglican church to be built in Mumbai. The beautiful building contains memorials to British colonists and is a fascinating place to visit. The church was restored in 2003 and won the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award the following year.

Liberty

The Liberty cinema is as much of an attraction as the Bollywood movies it shows. This spectacular building is a real delight and a great venue to appreciate the latest Indian blockbuster. Highly recommended even if the film being shown is not in English.
