With majestic Snowdonia to the north and the capital city of Cardiff to the south, you might think Mid Wales is just an area to drive through. But with its rich heritage and wonderful landscape you'd be very much mistaken. Here are our suggestions for some of the many great things to do in Mid Wales:

Brecon Beacons National Park, Brecon

Fantastic open countryside for walking, cycling, riding and exercising your dog. Brecon Beacons park also contains several museums and theatres for those less energetic among us. For further details on the Brecon Beacons call 01874 623366 or visit www.breaconbeacons.org

Powis Castle, nr Welshpool

Treasure filled medieval castle which if anything is outdone by its own stunning gardens. Powis castle also has an impressive aviary. Entry to the castle is currently £8.80 for adults and £4.40 for the kids from March through to October. The garden opens from 11am to 6pm and the castle is open from 1pm to 5pm. For further details call 01938 551944 or go to www.nationaltrust.org.uk

King Arthur’s Labyrinth, Powys

Exciting Arthurian centre with much to do and see above ground and below. Kids will love the dramatic boat ride into the caves deep under the ground. Admission is currently £5 for adults and £3.50 for children from March through to November 10am to 5pm. For further details call 01654 761584 or visit www.kingarthurslabyrinth.com
