Choose a city

by Sheila Richardson

Hong Kong is one of the most visited cities in the world, and it's easy to see why. This beautiful Asian city has everything you could possibly want from a city break - great hotels, delicious food, fabulous shopping and a whole host of culture. Take a look at a few ideas for things to do in Hong Kong:

Victoria Peak

Towering above the commercial heart of Hong Kong Island, Victoria Peak offers one of the best views you will ever see. The 550 metre mountain provides vistas of the Hong Kong skyscrapers, Victoria Harbour and the hills of the New Territories in the distance. No visit to Hong Kong is complete without visiting what the locals simply call The Peak.

Temple Street Night Market

Temple Street comes alive at night with market stalls, entertainers and a fantastic atmosphere. CDs, watches, clothes, handbags - you'll find a huge variety of products here. Temple Street Market also offers fortune tellers and wonderful traditional street shows. It's a fabulous experience even if you don't intend to buy anything.

Western Market

Western Market is the ideal place to browse for souvenirs and knick-knacks. The light attractive building was built in 1906 and returned to it's original grandeur in the 1990s. You'll find everything from jade trinkets to antique cameras and clocks. The third floor is home to the hugely popular Treasure Inn Restaurant.

Star Ferry

The ever popular Star Ferry gives you some of the best views of Hong Kong Island and the surrounding area. Seeing the spectacular city from the water is a truly special experience. For just a few Hong Kong dollars, you’ll get a first class seat on one of the most famous ferries in the world.

More city attractions

If you're not much of a sun lover, why not take a short break to Iceland or Finland. There are dozens of things to do in Helsinki and the tourist attractions in Reykjavik will leave you speechless.

For a great city just across the Channel, the Netherlands is the place to go. The incredibly diverse attractions of Amsterdam very rarely disappoint.

And finally, if it's excitement you're seeking, then the desert is the place to be. Either take in the bright lights and attractions in Las Vegas or enjoy the ever increasingly list of things to do in Dubai.
