National Waterways Museum, Gloucester

Situated in Gloucester Docks, the National Waterways Museum focuses on the history of Britain's extensive network of canals. Admission is £5 for adults and £4 for children every day from 10am to 5pm. For further details call 01452 318200 or visit www.nwm.org.uk

Clearwell Caves, nr Coleford

These iron mines are among the oldest in the UK believed to date from well over five thousand years ago. The atmospheric caves are particularly popular with children. Admission is £4 for adults and £2 for children from 10am to 5pm every day of the week. However in January and February the caves only open at the weekends. Dean Heritage Centre, Soudley

The Dean Heritage Centre is essentially a museum all about the Forest of Dean with many interesting exhibits and extensive outdoor areas. Admission is £4.50 for adults and £2.50 for the kids every day from 10am till 5.30pm. In the winter the centre opens at 11am and closes at 4pm.
