Little over an hours drive from London, Essex is a contrast of bustling towns such as Colchester and Southend with beautiful English countryside and coastline. But what else does the county have to offer? In no particular order, here are our suggestions for things to do in Essex:

Colchester Zoo, Colchester

Colchester Zoo is has all your other favourite animals including a great collection of wild cats. Admission is currently £13.99 for adults and £7.50 for children and the zoo is open every day from from 9.30 every day of the year except Christmas Day. Tilbury Fort, Tilbury

Impressive 17th century fort which is still in remarkably good condition. Admission is £3.20 for adults and £1.60 for children and the fort is open daily from 10am to 6pm although it does close a little earlier in the winter months. Mole Hall Wildlife Park, Saffron Walden

Relaxing animal park with a good collection of birds, monkeys and much more. Entry to the park is currently £5.50 for adults and £3.80 for the kids from 10:30am till dusk every day from Easter through to October. For further details call 01799 540400 or go to www.molehall.co.uk
