How to prevent DVT during air travel?

There is no definite way to prevent DVT during air travel. However, there is a great deal you can do to reduce your chances of suffering from this condition:

- try to get as comfortable as you can in your seat
- walk around the cabin every hour or two
- bend and stretch your legs as much as possible when seated
- extend and rotate your feet as much as possible when seated
- don't take sleeping pills
- drink lots of water
- avoid alcohol

The Final Thought

DVT is a potentially fatal. However, when you compare these figures to the millions of people that travel by air each year, it is clear that the risks are very small. As long as you try to follow the aforementioned advice, you shouldn't loose any sleep about flying. It is still the safest form of travel in the world.
