Cathedrals account for many of the greatest buildings in the world, and Great Britain is fortunate enough to lay claim to a great number of them. Here are some of the awe inspiring religious erections you'll find right on your doorstep:

Hereford Cathedral

Not only is Hereford Cathedral a wonderful building but it also houses a huge chained library and the largest pre 15th century map in the world. Admission is £4.50 for adults and £3.50 for the kids Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4.15pm. On Sundays the cathedral opens from 11am to 3.15pm. This memorable building is the longest medieval cathedral in England and certainly well worth an hour of your time. Salisbury Cathedral, Salisbury

One of the grandest cathedrals in the country, Salisbury isn't just another church. Not only does it lay claim to the largest spire in England but it also contains the original Magna Carta. Admission is £3.80 for adults and £2 for the children from 7.15am to 6.15pm every day of the week, every week of the year. However, always check to see if there is a service on before you go.
