| Choose a city | Bangkok is a city where East really does meet West. The Thai capital is a city of contrasts with ancient temples and river markets just a stone's throw from skyscrapers and department stores. It's one of the most interesting cities in Asia and one that many travelers return to. Here are a few ideas for things to do in Bangkok: Wat Pho
Wat Pho is a beautiful Thai temple made famous by its awe-inspiring Reclining Buddha which measures 46m long and 15m high. The temple would be worth the visit even without its main attraction. With golden spires and ancient buildings, there is so much to see. Opening hours are from 8am-5pm every day of the week.
Chatuchak Weekend Market Chatuchak Weekend Market is a labyrinth of over 8000 stalls selling a wide variety of products from Thailand and the wider area. In recent times the market has embraced products of a more modern nature so there really is something for everyone. Opening hours are from 7am-6pm on Saturday and Sunday.
River tours A Bangkok river tour is a must as there is no better way to see this great city. You could hire a small rua song torn speedboat taxi but for a more relaxing experience opt for one of the many hotel cruises. The Oriental holds dinner aboard the lovely Maeyanang boat, and is highly recommended.
Grand Palace The Grand Palace is an architectural and spiritual treasure, and one of Bangkok's most popular attractions. Over a mile of decorative walls enclose what was once a self-contained city. The palace houses Wat Phra Kaew, otherwise known as is the temple of the Emerald Buddha. Opening hours are from 8.30am-3.30pm every day of the week. |
