- quality time. Often a new born baby can take up so much time and emotional energy that you have nothing left for your partner. This can lead to couples losing a sense of closeness. The result of this is that having sex again can seem like a somewhat cold, emotionless experience. You haven't had a cuddle for a month and suddenly he's pounding away on top of you. Spend some time together, just the two of you, and reaffirm your bond of love.

- gentleness is the key. Most men will understand that a woman will be a little tender after giving birth. However, even the most sensitive of males can get carried away in the heat of passion. Just give him a reminder to take things very slowly and let you be in control. If you do experience discomfort don't be afraid to tell him to stop.

- no more surprises. Unless you want another baby in quick succession, remember to take precautions when you start making love again. You would be surprised how many couples for one reason or another don't, and end up with another bundle of fun on it's way.
