Deciding when to start having sex again after giving birth can be difficult. Experts say you should wait until after your six week check up. However, some woman wait as little as a couple of weeks and some woman choose to wait several months. Everybody is different and really the decision has to be yours and yours alone. But there are some guidelines to help you choose the right time and ensure you don't regret it afterwards...
- take your time. Unless you have a sky high sex drive - what's the hurry? Your body, and in particular your vaginal area, has just gone through an incredibly taxing experience. The last thing it needs is for 200lbs of man to be bearing down on it.
- don't feel pressured. If you have a supportive partner you should feel no pressure from him to start having sex again. However, men being men, sometimes their hormones can get in the way of their thought process. But you must stick to your guns and only take the plunge when you're ready.
- talk, talk, talk. It is important you communicate with your partner and explain how you feel as well as understanding how he feels. If you don't feel ready for sex, tell him.
