Buying a house can be daunting, exciting, worrying and joyous all at the same time. It's the biggest financial commitment you'll ever make and it can significantly effect your future happiness. So needless to say it's pretty important you get it right. Location Location and looking for a house go together like men and remote controls. A house can be perfect but if it's in the wrong area no-one will want it. There are so many issues that need to be addressed when deciding upon an area to buy. If you have children, is there a school nearby? Are there other children in the neighborhood? Is it far enough away from busy roads, flight paths and train lines? If you don't have a car does it have good public transport links? Sometimes you will find a house that answers all the questions but more often than not you'll have to prioritize your needs. What's more important, having a local shop or having a local park? Choices and sacrifices have to be made. You will be spending more time within these four walls than anywhere else in your world. It's imperative you choose the right house. But just what is the right house? For most people, it's the one that puts a smile on your face as your view it for the first time. It's the one that not only feels like a home but feels like your home. However, you must give some consideration to practicality as well. Look beyond the furnishings and interior design of the house. All that will be gone when you are handed the keys. Will your furniture suit the house? For example if the house is contemporary you can't really fill it with your lovely pine furniture. Size matters Remember you and your family have to live in the house. Is there really enough room for all of you? And unless you've made a conscious decision, is there enough room for further additions to the family? Can the house be extended to meet your growing needs? All these questions have to be answered before you choose a home. Sometimes it is tempting to buy the smaller house in the nicer areas or with more attractive features. But in the long run, it simply isn't worth all the extra hassle a lack of space will cause. |
