Barbecues - as well as the possibilities of burns the big danger is the use of gas. Accidents are very rare but always make sure any gas canisters are connected properly and free from damage.

Fires - if you must start a fire in your garden position it far away from trees or other plants where the flames could spread to. Don't use petrol or any other highly flammable substance. Also don't wear loose clothing that can inadvertently catch fire. And finally keep children at a safe distance - their curiosity can often lead to accidents.

Garden ponds - every parents knows the dangers of water in the garden but young children are still drowning in ponds and pools. Even if its only a couple of feet deep don't take chances - use a cover or fence to stop your child getting anywhere near it.

The Final Thought

Despite the many accidents that occur each year, our gardens are usually very safe places. As long as you use common sense you should relax and enjoy your own little slice of mother nature.
