heavy shoes should be worn when cutting the grass
If you think your garden is a danger free zone but you would be wrong. Nearly half a million people are injured in their gardens every year. Of those injuries 50 to 70 are fatal. So what are the potential dangers lying await in your back yard?

Electrical equipment

Although most tools are now fitted with emergency cut off device people are still being killed by cutting or moving over the electrical cable. Always operate with the cable running behind to avoid accidents. Also never use electrical equipment unless conditions are near perfect - the majority of accidents occur when it's wet, windy or the user is stretching or rushing. And finally, always double check an appliance is switched off at the mains before cleaning, adjusting or otherwise exposing it's mechanisms.

Proper clothing

If you are doing any work in the garden always ensure you are suitably dressed. Heavy shoes should be worn when cutting the grass and when performing heavy work. Gloves should be worn whenever performing any task where you are handling any potentially harmful plant, substance or tool.

Walking

The only person responsible for the state of the paving, pathway or patio in your garden is you. Be aware of any areas such as raised slabs where accidents can occur. Also take care when conditions are wet. People have a tendency to relax because they are on their own property.
