by Patricia Oberman Moving to a new house can be one of the most exciting experiences of your life. However, this joyous time can be lessened somewhat by the packing process. Accidents happen. Belongings get damaged. Tempers are lost. Don't let this happen to you by following these simple rules to a trouble free move:1. Be prepared The worst thing you can do when it comes to the removal process is leave everything to the last minute. You need to start early and you need to be well stocked with boxes, paper, bubble wrap and sellotape. Remember these are your life possessions so it's not the time for laziness or a lack of preparation. 2. Label boxes A little time spent in your old house labeling the packed boxes will make life a lot easier when you arrive in your new house. 3. Heavy then light It may sound like common sense but hundreds of people each year arrive at their new home with squashed belongings because they placed heavy items on top of lighter ones. You would be surprised at the number of people who sustain injuries in the removal process. Even if you're using a removal company you'll still probably be packing yourself and moving your belongings around the house. It can be very tempting to try to lift heavy items 'just this once'. But just remember - if it's a strain use your brain. 5. Don't risk your treasures with the removal men Even the most reliable of removal men can have the odd accident. If you have items that are incredibly valuable, whether it be financially or sentimentally, don't take any chances - carry them yourself. |
