The symptoms of anxiety or general anxiety disorder (GAD) often vary in both nature and severity. One person with the condition may display many more symptoms than the next.

Anxiety can manifest itself in physical and psychological symptoms. Common physical symptoms include dizziness, tiredness, shortness of breath, and excessive thirst. The condition can also cause nausea, headaches, diarrhea, and muscle pain.

Anxiety may also lead to painful or missed periods, pins and needles, and heart palpitations. Another typical symptom is difficulty falling or staying asleep.

In terms of psychological symptoms, you may have an overwhelming feeling of foreboding. In other words, you sense that something bad is going to happen. You may also feel very restless, have difficulty concentrating, and be easily distracted.

Other psychological symptoms include impatience, irritability, and severe tension. You will feel very much on edge which will make social interaction difficult.

It's easy to see how severe anxiety or general anxiety disorder (GAD) can have a destructive affect on your life. The automatic response to many of these symptom is to become increasingly isolated to avoid potential dangers and triggers. However, this can soon lead to depression which creates a whole host of other problems.
