| How to switch gas and electricity suppliers |
Switching energy suppliers really couldn't be easier.
Essentially, all you need to do is contact your prospective new supplier
and tell them you want to move.
And approximately one month later (due to industry regulations) you will
have a new gas or electricity supplier.
On the day of the switch call the supplier you are moving from and give
them a meter reading so that they can produce a final bill.
And that's pretty much all there is to it.
Despite the simplicity of the process, people still have questions and
three of the most common are as follows:
Do I need to tell my old supplier I’m switching?
No, the transfer of your gas or electricity supply is arranged by your
new supplier so they will contact your old supplier for you.
How will I know when the switch has taken place?
You’ll receive a letter from your new supplier during the notice
period, and this will tell you the date of your switch. The switch will
usually take place about four or five weeks after you sign. Your old supplier
will send you a final bill, and you’ll then start receiving bills
from your new supplier.
Does it cost anything to switch energy suppliers?
No, switching suppliers doesn’t cost anything. The only thing you
may have to budget for is the final bill from your current supplier.
