WIth the soaring cost of gas and electricity and the ever-increasing concern over the environment, more and more people are looking at ways to reduce their monthly energy bills.

Turn it down
By turning your thermostat down by just one degree centigrade you can reduce your annual bill by over 10 per cent.

Change your bulbs
Using energy saving light bulbs instead of traditional ones can save you £7 a year per bulb. They a may be more expensive, but they last up to twelve times longer.

Take showers not baths
According to research, simply taking showers instead of baths saves you an incredible 40 per cent less water.

Insulate your home
Installing adequate loft insulation can save you up to 25 per cent off your annual heating bill. Wall cavity insulation can reduce your bills by 35% although it is more expensive to fit.

Lag your boiler
A £15 boiler jacket and a £2 meter to lag the pipe from your boiler to the hot water tank could save you up to £30 a year.

Bleed your radiators
Releasing trapped air from your radiators makes them perform better and therefore saves you money.

Switch off
Your appliances still use around 70 per cent of their usual energy when left on standby. Turning them off properly you can save you approximately£20 a year.

Unplug chargers
Leaving your mobile phone or laptop charger plugged in when you’re not using them wastes around £15 a year per appliance.
