Economy 7

Economy 7 is an tariff that has a lower price for energy used during a seven-hour period at night, usually from 1am to 8am

This allows you to make savings by heating your water and storage heater during this period.

In general, you need to be using at last 20% of your energy consumption at night to make a saving

Anyone can change to Economy 7 but it does involve a change of meter which some energy suppliers may charge you for.

You should also be aware that many Economy 7 tariffs may charge you almost double the standard rate for any energy you use during the day.

So you really must change your energy habits if you want to save any money.

Some Economy 7 users also find that the seven hour economy period is not long enough to ensure that they have hot water throughout the day.

Your water will be lovely and hot in the morning and afternoon but as you move into the evening you may find that the temperature begins to drop.
