ICSI | Treatment | Cost | Success Rates | IVF and ICSI

The procedure known as Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is specifically where sperm is injected directly into the centre of a woman's egg. The egg is obtained from the woman through the same process used in standard invitro fertilization (IVF). This combination of ICSI and IVF has become one of the most successful solutions to infertility in the 21st Century.

The ICSI technique was designed to be used only in cases where a man has abnormal perm. However, an increasing number of couples are choosing to have the procedure combined with IVF, even although the man has healthy sperm. There are a number of reasons for this such as unexplained infertility or previous poor results with standard IVF.

Many clinics have developed their ICSI treatment to such an extent that success rates are higher than those for standard IVF treatment. ICSI with IVF may cost several hundred pounds more than traditional IVF, but in many cases it's worth every penny.

However, before your rush out to sign up for ICSI with IVF, it's worth remembering that each infertility case is different. There can be a myriad of reasons for a couple's inability to conceive. Just because a technique appears to be working for others, doesn't necessarily mean it's the ideal treatment for you.

Always listen to the advice of your fertility specialist. Don't assume that just because you've read a few articles on ICSI or IVF that you're an expert. Fertility specialists study and train for many years to be in a position to help couples with fertility problems. It would be foolish to ignore their opinion.

if you are considering ICSI with IVF, it's important to talk to as many clinics as you can. This is a major decision in your life. Do everything you can to make sure that you get it right.
