We often hear about the importance of a good mattress such as those with pocket springs. But do expensive mattresses provide any real benefit for a baby?
Unfortunately, there is no definite answer to this question. Some experts maintain that a baby is too light to receive any benefit from a pocket sprung mattress, whereas others believe it will provide better support for your little one.
Perhaps the best advice is to buy an expensive cot mattress if you can afford to, but not lose any sleep over it if you can't. A baby sleeping on a £40 mattress isn't going to develop back problems or even feel uncomfortable.
A pocket sprung cotbed mattress should perhaps be more of a consideration when your little one grows bigger, longer and heavier. But even then, the difference it will make is likely to be negligible.
