Tobias Vincent Maguire, or Tobey Maguire as we know him, was born on June 27th 1975 in Santa Monica, California. After abandoning initial aspirations to become a chef, he turned his attention to acting.

The likeable young Californian quickly landed several commercials and small roles on various TV shows. However, his big break came when he won the starring role on the Fox comedy Great Scott in 1992. That show would only last nine weeks but it gave Tobey the foothold that every actor needs.

In 1997 he appeared in the critically acclaimed movie The Ice Storm (1997) and followed that up with impressive performances in Pleasantville (1998) and The Cider House Rules (1999).

In 2002, Tobey made the leap to superstardom when he won the role of Peter Parker in the blockbuster Spider-Man. The film was a huge success, becoming one of the most profitable films of all time.

In 2003, Tobey starred in the heartwarming movie Seabiscuit, before reprising his superhero role in Spider-Man 2 a year later. The third episode in the comic book tale is due for release in 2007.
