Corrie star Johnny Briggs picks up MBE

Former Coronation Street star Johnny Briggs has picked up his much deserved MBE from The Queen.

The hugely popular actor played businessman Mike Baldwin on the ITV soap for thirty years before leaving in 2006.

Johnny was clearly delighted with his honour saying:

"When I was little I used to drive past the palace. I never thought I would get through the gates, let alone meet the Queen and have the honour of getting an MBE."

He revealed that The Queen told him his role as Mike Baldwin "must have been quite fun" although it's unclear whether Her Majesty actually watches the long-running soap.
