| Richard Gere Biography Richard Tiffany Gere was born in Philadelphia, USA on August 31st 1949. After graduating from North Syracuse High School in 1967, he won a gymnastic scholarship to the University of Massachusetts. He chose to major in philosophy but dropped out of college after just two years to pursue a career in acting.
He made his screen debut in a television show called Chelsea D.H.O in 1973 but it wasn't until he appeared in the movie Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977) that his career began to take off. His electric performance led to roles in major movies such as Days of Heaven (1978), Yanks (1979) and American Gigolo (1982).
Two years later Richard would become one of the biggest stars in the world with his role as Zack Mayo in An Office and a Gentleman (1982). Hollywood had a new leading actor, and women all over the world had a new heartthrob.
In the years that followed Richard established himself as an A-list actor with movies such as No Mercy (1986), Pretty Woman (1990) and Sommersby (1993). After a series of disappointing films in the 1990's, Richard bounced back with box office winners Unfaithful (2002), Chicago (2002) and Shall We Dance (2004). He's now more popular than ever. |
