Matthew Fox was born in Wyoming, USA on July 14th 1966. He studied Economics at Columbia University and intended to become a stockbroker on Wall Street. However, his girlfriend's mother who was a modeling agent, convinced him to try some modeling work. Matthew was a natural and was soon appearing in television commercials as well as many magazines. It was enough to make him ditch his Wall Street plans and purse a career in acting instead.

He made his television debut in the series Freshman Dorm (1992) but it was his role in Party of Five (1994) that made him famous. The hugely popular television show also launched the careers of Neve Campbell and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Ten years later, Matthew struck gold again when he was cast in a new television series called Lost. His role as Dr. Jack Shepard has made Matthew one of the hottest properties in television. Many people are now tipping him to follow George Clooney and make the successful transition from small screen actor to big screen movie star.
