| Jim Carrey Biography James Eugene Carrey was born in Ontario, Canada on January 12th 1962. He was a born entertainer and worked in theatres and clubs from a young age trying to make people laugh. In 1979 he moved to Los Angeles and soon managed to obtain a regular slot at the world famous Comedy Club.
His first taste of television came in 1980 providing voices for The All-Night Show. Several other forgettable shows and movies followed until he was cast in the movie Earth Girls Are Easy (1988). The film was a moderate success but Jim's zany performance caught the attention of the Wayan brothers who were putting together the comedy show In Living Color. Jim joined the cast and became the headline act after just one year.
Jim's big movie break came in 1994 when her was offered the lead role in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. The movie was a surprise hit and Jim was suddenly a movie star. His next film The Mask (1994) was an even bigger success, and he soon made it three in a row with Dumb & Dumber (1994).
SInce then Jim has established himself as perhaps the most popular comedy actor in Hollywood with the movies How the Grinch Stole Christmas 2000), Bruce Almighty (2003) and Lemony Snicket (2004). However, he has also highlighted his dramatic acting abilities with acclaimed performances in The Truman Show (1998) and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004). |
