| Jamie Oliver Biography Jamie Trevor Oliver was born in Essex, England on May 27th 1975. He studied cooking at Westminster Catering College before working as head pasty chef for Antonio Carluccio at The Neal Street Restaurant and then at the acclaimed River Cafe. It was here where he was spotted by a TV producer, an event which was to change his life forever.
Jamie's talent and personality led to him being offered his own show on BBC television called The Naked Chef (1999). Jamie and the series were a huge success. Several books and spin off shows followed establishing Jamie as one of the biggest celebrities in the country. However, his most important contribution to British society was still to come.
In 2005 Jamie's television series Jamie's School Dinners forced the government to place a greater emphasis of food in schools. He raised such awareness of the appalling state of our school children's diets that Tony Blair felt it was time to act. Jamie had literally changed the world - well, maybe in a small way. Nevertheless, it's amazing to think how far the young Essex lad has come, and he has only just turned thirty. |
