Home and Away has scooped four awards at the prestigious Australian Logies. The Summer Bay soap won Most Popular Australian Drama, and cast members Kate Ritchie (Sally), Paul O'Brien (Jack)and Jodi Gordon (Martha) all picked up Silver Logies.
Kate Ritchie accepted the Best drama award on behalf of the entire cast (in place of an absent Ray Meagher), capping off a memorable night for the young actress.
Despite appearing on Home and Away for eighteen years, this was the first time Katie had received a Logie nomination, let alone win one of the treasured awards.
Katie was delighted this recognition of her performance as Sally in the popular soap. However, she was quick to point out that she hasn't just played one part for these years, "People think I've been playing the same role for the past 18 years . . . but it's certainly not the same role it was 18 years ago. I was a child, then a school-aged teenager, then a young woman, a young mother. It has changed, more than most roles on TV."
Home and Away was the only terrestrial drama series to have any success in the Silver Logie category, and the Summer Bay soap was also the only show to win four awards this year.
The Logies are generally thought of as the Australian equivalent to the The Emmys in America or the BAFTAs in the UK.
