Terry Wogan's denies blame for Eurovision slip up
Wednesday March 21st 2007
Terry Wogan has refused to accept blame for announcing the wrong winner
on the Eurovision qualifying show Making Your Mind Up.
The experienced presenter announced that solo singer Cyndi had won the
singing contest, before co-presenter Fearne Cotton, corrected him and
confirmed that Scooch had in fact won.
Wogan has tried to play down the incident saying: "Nobody died,
it wasn't the General Election and people got a bit confused.
"I suppose I should make an apology to Cyndi - although I'm not
taking the blame for this because I was the one who said Cyndi had won.
"And if she's listening, my apologies for raising your hopes at
the last minute, which was inadvertent and I'm sorry."
Earlier in the month, it was revealed that the popular entertainer is
the only celebrity paid for their participation in Children Need. The
Radio 2 DJ takes home a healthy £1,300 an hour for the one night
charity extravaganza.
