The truth about carbohydrates

What are the dangers of a diet low in carbohydrates?
The dangers from a very low carbohydrate diet arise for two reasons. Firstly, because carbohydrates are important to many functions of the body.

For example the brain uses carbohydrates for energy; any carbohydrate counting increases the risks of not giving the brain the juice it needs to function effectively.

Secondly because the lack of carbohydrates has to be made up with either protein or fat. Too much protein in the diet can significantly increase the likelihood of liver and kidney disease. Too much fat can lead to all kinds of problems including diabetes, heart disease and high cholesterol.

The Final Thought
Women are now almost as preoccupied with carbs as they are with calories. We're constantly told that carbohydrates are bad for us - particularly if we're trying to lose weight. This is simply not the case. While it's true that our bodies don't actually need carbs to function, it is also true that a diet free from carbohydrates is not particularly healthy, effective or practical. A healthy diet is a balanced diet. You can't have balance without carbohydrates
