We've all heard of ginseng, but what exactly is it and what are its benefits? |
Ginseng is derived from the root of the ginseng plant. Although there are several different types of ginseng, the three most common are Panex ginseng (also known as Chinese or Korean ginseng), American ginseng and Siberian ginseng.
Perhaps the main benefit taking ginseng is its ability to help the body fight off illness. Research has demonstrated its ability to encourage the production of immune cells designed to neutralize potentially harmful bacteria and viruses.
However, ginseng is also widely used to help alleviate stress and anxiety. Studies have shown that it actively helps support the glands involved in the production of stress hormones within the body.
Panex ginseng also has a mild effect on men who suffer from infertility or impotence due to its ability to marginally increase both sperm and testosterone levels.
