How often should I practice?

Like all exercise you will get out what you put in. You will see considerably more results in you practice three times a week than if you only do it once. However, perhaps yoga's main benefit is even if you only practice for a half hour a week you will see positive effects. The important thing is to keep doing it.

Does yoga have any bearing on my religious beliefs?

Although yoga can incorporate aspects of Hinduism and Buddhism, it is not fundamental to the exercise. You can simply choose not to explore these links. There is no report of any religious group voicing concerns about the practice of yoga amongst its followers.

How do I get started with yoga?

You can buy a yoga book or video and teach yourself the basic moves, but the best idea is to attend a yoga class at your local gym. Once you have been properly taught the correct exercise you can perform them at home if you wish. However, many people enjoy the social side of attending a weekly class.

The Final Thought

Pilates is very much the new kid on the block. But yoga shouldn't be forgotten about. It has been around for centuries and it will still be practiced in centuries to come. If you haven't tried it before, give it a go. You may be surprised what an effect a few stretches can have on your body and your mind.
