All forms of exercise are good for you whether it's a two hour gym workout or walking around the shops on a Saturday afternoon. However, not only does each type of exercise has different benefits but each burns off calories at a different rate. If one of your goals is to lose weight this information is vitally important. So what type of exercise is suited to you? Here is a quick rundown of the choices available...

Jogging
An excellent aerobic exercise which increases stamina and develops the leg and buttock area. Approximate calories used: 300 per hour

Swimming
Another great aerobic workout which develops overall body fitness, stamina and flexibility. Approximate calories used: 500 per hour

Yoga
Not the best form of exercise if you're looking to burn calories and see a significant change in the mirror. However, it does help with posture, flexibility, and general well being. Approximate calories used: 200 per hour

Walking
Even walking around the shops is a good workout. Not only does it strengthen and tone your legs and bum but it helps develop overall fitness. Approximate calories used: 100 per hour

Cycling
A great workout which focuses on your legs and buttocks but also develops stamina and fitness. Approximate calories used: 350 per hour

Tennis
Combines the stamina benefits of running with the strength benefits of swinging the racket for the arm and shoulder area. Approximate calories used: 300 per hour

Aerobics
This type of light constant movement exercise is a great way to lose weight as well as increasing all round fitness. Approximate calories used: 300 per hour

Resistance/weight training
Although this type of workout is more focused on strength development it also acts as good stamina exercise. Approximate calories used: 300 per hour

Step workout
Develops everything from your abs down as well as improving overall stamina. Approximate calories used: 600 per hour
