diet & fitness: exercise myths A guide to common exercise myths |

by Alicia Delaney 1. No pain no gainMany people believe unless you put your body through hell during a workout you wont receive any benefit. This is a misconception. Any form of exercise will produce results both in terms of your health and your appearance. Yes, a strenuous workout will produce results faster than a light workout but you don't need to kill yourself at the gym to make a difference. 2. You need to workout at least three times a week Yes, this will produce results faster than exercising once a week but you will be surprised at the difference a 60 minute workout each week will have. One hour a week is infinitely better than no hours a week.
This is only true if you're lifting huge weights. Using light weights is a great weight to improve strength and stamina as well as one of the best ways to tone your body. 4. I'm too old to exercise This is complete rubbish. As long as you're sensible, you should exercise as long as you physically can. Obviously, if you're in your golden years, lifting heavy weights is not recommended. However, light exercise such as walking and swimming can be performed by all ages. |
