Admitting to yourself that you are overeating can be a difficult. There is a often a sense of guilt and a misconception that you're just being greedy. But it is a recognized disorder just like anorexia or bulemia. So what are the common signs you should look for? You can experience one or many of the following:

- eating larger quantities of food than normal
- eating food when you are not actually hungry
- eating your food faster than normal
- eating until you feel unwell
- eating causes you to feel guilty often resulting in a wish to eat alone

- bulemia i.e. binging on food and the vomiting
- eating causes you to feel guilty often resulting in a wish to eat alone

What can be done?

If you feel that you are someone you know is overeating you should seek help as quickly as possible. The earlier the disorder is detected the less chance it has of causing serious health problems. You should speak to your local doctor and he will help you decide on the best form of treatment. Usually, he/she will refer you to a counselor who in turn will try to establish the exact reasons for the overeating and help you address them effectively.
