Slimming World is a chain of weight loss centres founded in the late 1960s by Margaret Miles-Bramwell. Today, there well over 5000 Slimming World groups throughout the UK. Dieters pay a one-off membership fee and then a small payment for each class they attend.
What does the plan involve?
The Slimming World diet is based on the theory of food optimising which aims to encourage sensible food choices, leading to weight loss and improved health. Foods are divided into three groups: free food, healthy foods, and those referred to as 'syris'. Free foods can be eaten in unlimited quantities, healthy foods are those providing essential nutrients, and syris foods are those unhealthy but delicious foods we all love to eat. The Slimming World diet also focuses on increasing activity levels and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle.
Food and recipes
The Slimming World plan allows almost all foods to be eat but encourages fruits, vegetables and lean meats to help reduce daily calorie intake. Members are allowed a certain number of syris foods each day, whether it be a glass of wine, a bar of chocolate or a packet of crisps.
The program encourages its members to be active but exercise is not a formal part of the Slimming World plan.
Eating out when on the Slimming world diet shouldn't be a problem. Alcohol and caffeine are allowed. There is no need to buy special foods to follow the program. The eating plan is perfectly suitable for vegetarians.
The Slimming World eating plan has not been linked to many celebrities but you can be sure that any number of stars have tried the program. Whether they successfully lost weight with the slimming world program is another question altogether.
