The wonderfully named Cabbage Soup Diet is a short term plan designed to help you lose up to 15lb in just nine days. It is not intended be followed for any significant period of time.
What does the plan involve?
The Cabbage Soup diet is based on the theory that by following a diet consisting primarily of cabbage soup, you will dramatically lower your calorie intake and therefore lose weight.
Cabbage Soup food and recipes
Despite its name, the cabbage soup diet allows you to eat a great deal more than solely cabbage soup. Indeed, the cabbage soup isn't even cabbage soup. It's a mix of low calorie vegetables, canned tomatoes and stock. The diet plan allows combinations of foods each day, such as beef and vegetables one day, followed by bananas and milk the next. The diet allows a very limited group of foods with everything from bread to most beverages off the menu.

Eating out when on the Cabbage Soup diet simply won't work unless of course the restaurant has the special cabbage soup on its menu. Alcohol is not permitted but caffeinated drinks are. You don't need to buy special foods to follow the plan. However, the program is perfectly suitable for vegetarians.
The cabbage soup eating plan has allegedly been used by a large number of celebrities in the UK and the US. Stars such as Sarah Michelle Gellar are rumoured to have lost weight with this slimming program.
Does the plan work?
If you can stick to the Cabbage Soup Diet for seven days, you will lose significant weight, although much of it will be water weight. But don't be tempted to carry on past the seven day point. There may be a slim chance that you will lose more weight but there is a much greater chance that you will become dangerously unbalanced both nutritionally and perhaps even mentally!
