Question

Which foods have been shown to reduce cholesterol levels?

We all know that certain foods can raise your level of cholesterol but few of us realise that other foods can actively lower your cholesterol.

But what are these cholesterol friendly foods? Here are five of the best:

Garlic
First up we have the genuine superfood garlic. Garlic contains the substance allicin which can prevent the retention of the so-called bad cholesterol (LDL) as well as helping eliminate it from your body.

Prunes
Prunes are full of antioxidants that can actively reduce your levels of cholesterol.

Pecans
Pecans are more than just a tasty topping for various desserts. Research has shown their active ingredients can lower cholesterol in your blood.

Oily Fish
Oily fish such as fresh tuna, mackerel, salmon and sardines are rich in omega-3 essential fatty acids which can help prevent LDL cholesterol from developing in your arteries.

Nuts
Almost all types of nuts are good sources of monounsaturated fats which studies have shown can help return your cholesterol levels to a more normal, healthier state.
