First Impressions

People make judgment about people from the first five minutes of meeting them. Sometimes these first impressions change as they get to know the person. But sometimes they don't. This is why it's important you make an effort when you meet your colleagues. The best thing you can do is relax. If you appear to be at ease it will put them at ease. Smile and be friendly with everyone. If you're friendly they will be as well.

The weeks and months ahead

Everybody is different and every job is different. You can't predict how long it will take you to settle in to a new job. The two things to remember are be friendly and don't be afraid to ask. If you don't know how to do something, just ask someone. Not only will this stop you making mistakes but it will help you get to know the people around you. Keep smiling and make an effort to integrate - you'll be part of the family in no time.

The Final Thought

Your first day at a new job is much like your first day at a new school. You may be older and wiser but you're not immune to nerves and apprehension. Will they like you? Will you fit in? Will you make any mistakes? There are no guarantees in life but if you try to relax and just be yourself you should have no problems.
