Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure where excess fat is removed usually from a patient's bottom, hips, thighs, or stomach.

Under general anesthetic, a hollow metal tube is passed through tiny incisions in the skin and begins to break up the fat beneath the skin. This fat is then removed by a syringe or vacuum pump. Ultrasound waves or an injection of fluid are also sometimes used to break up the fat.
