Is having plastic surgery abroad a good idea and how much money can you save?

More and more women in the UK are choosing to have cosmetic surgery abroad. This is primarily because of the cheaper prices found in countries such as Turkey, Poland, Mexico and Malaysia.

In some cases, surgery costs twice as much in the UK as it does overseas. For example a nose job in Britain will cost in the region of £4,000 to £5,500. In Croatia the same treatment will cost just over £2,000.

However, these savings can come with added risks. There aren't many countries in the world who can match the skills and experience offered by plastic surgery clinics in the UK. When having surgery aboard, there is a significant risk that you will not only be in the hands of an inferior surgeon but the after-care you will receive will also be sub-standard.

Of course, there are cosmetic surgery clinics in counties like South Africa and the Philippines every bit as competent as those found at home. And there are poor surgeons in the UK just like everyone else. But the problem lies in the fact that in most counties poor surgeons are more numerous and therefore the chances of finding yourself lying on their operating table far greater.
