Lips

As women get older their lips have a tendency to retreat into their mouths. This can be addressed through injecting fillers or implants into the lip area to increase the fullness. These substance can be injected into the lips or inserted via a small incision. Talk to your surgeon to decide what method is best for you. Swelling and soreness will last at least a week but you will see an instant difference. However, high profile cases such as Leslie Ash have shown what can go wrong with this procedure. A natural look can be very hard to create.

Facial implants

The most common form of implants are for the chin and cheek area. A chin implant is usually used where a patient has a receding chin. A cheek implant is used where the face has become concaved or dented. Both implants are inserted from inside of the mouth to prevent any exterior scarring. The patient will experience selling and minor discomfort for at least a week after the operation. Many different substances are used - some are permanent, some will disappear over time. Talk to your surgeon about what will best suit your needs.

Breast enlargement

One of the most common forms of surgery is the breast enlargement. An implant is inserted via an incision under your breast, the armpit or through the areola. Usually the patient is kept in hospital overnight and the stitches will be removed after a week or so. There are many types of implants available and of course there are many shapes and sizes to choose from. Its imperative you give considerable thought to what you want. Do your homework - it's a decision that can have a huge effect on your life.

Breast reduction

Although not as popular as breast enlargement, breast reduction is a very common procedure in the UK. Most woman would love to have a big chest but for some it can be a curse. Fortunately, this problem can be effectively addressed through cosmetic surgery. A breast reduction involves removing excess fat from the breast area to give the patient a more comfortable size and shape. The procedure will also require the repositioning of the nipple due to the dramatic change in the breast proportions

Liposuction

Liposuction is usually performed on bums, thighs, stomach and the necks to remove excess fat. Patients are given a general anesthetic and then a thin tube is inserted in the fatty area. A substance is then passed through the tube which begins to dissolve the fat. Once the fat is more fluid it is sucked out of the body through the tube. As long as you use a reputable surgeon the only side effects will be temporary swelling and bruising. This procedure should not be used unless you have tried to loose the excess fat though diet and exercise. However some areas of fat on a woman's body simply wont dissipate. Liposuction is an ideal procedure in these instances.

Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)

A tummy tuck differs from liposuction in the sense that it incorporates the tightening of stomach muscles as well as the removal of excess fat. The procedure involve an incision in the tummy allowing the treatment of the muscles and the removal of unwanted fat through liposuction. The patient will be required to remain in hospital for at least two nights to ensure the muscles are supported and enable healing to take place. Stitches will removed after a couple of weeks but the patient may experience discomfort for over a month.

Varicose veins

Many woman hate their legs because of the presence of varicose veins. Not only can these unsightly markings have a psychological effect but they can also cause physical discomfort. Fortunately they can be removed through a simple yet effective procedure with very few drawbacks. Under a general anesthetic, a small incision is made in the leg from which the vein is removed. The patient will be bandaged until the stitches are due for removal after approximately one week.
