Vaginoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that tightens the vaginal muscles and surrounding tissues. The surgery is popular amongst women who who feel that their vagina has become looser following childbirth, or through the aging process. This lack of tightness in the vagina can result in reduced sensation during sexual intercourse.

Vaginoplasty procedure
The vaginoplasty procedure is carried out under local or general anaesthetic, and you should be able to return home the same day. The surgeon shortens and joins the overly stretched muscle of the vagina, before removing any excess skin. The procedure will be carried at either the front or back of the vagina, or both should the patient desire. The work takes place inside the vagina so no scarring is visible.

Risks and side effects
There are no serious risks associated with vaginoplasty. However, the genital area will be swollen and painful after the surgery, and there is also a small risk of bleeding, infection, and loss of sensation.

Cost and prices
The price of vaginoplasty in a UK private clinic depends on the level of work required. For either front or back vaginal tightening, expect to pay between £3000 - £4000. For both front and back tightening, you are looking at nearer £6000. You can save up to 30% by choosing to have the operation abroad, with the USA amongst the least expensive options.

NHS, private or abroad
Vaginoplasty can be carried out on the NHS but only where there is a clinical reason for the procedure e.g. if the vagina has been damaged in childbirth. Vaginoplasty is offered by many private cosmetic clinics in both the UK and abroad.
