What types of clear braces are available in the UK and which method of treatment is best?

In the past, the only type of dental brace available was the traditional metal track system. However, with advances in cosmetic dentistry there are now an increasing number of dental braces available in the UK.

All braces or aligners are designed to straighten or move teeth into a more desirable position. However, some do it quicker than others, and some are more aesthetically pleasing than others. Each patient has to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of each system before making a decision that is right for them.

One of the newest type of dental brace are Inman Aligners which allow teeth to be corrected in just six to sixteen weeks. Coiled springs fit to the back of the teeth and a bar sits across the front to ease the teeth into position. On average, expect to pay between £1200 and £2500 in a UK private clinic for this procedure.

Another popular choice are Lingual dental braces which differ from traditional dental braces in the fact that they're bonded to the back of the teeth, instead of the front. This makes the brace almost invisible. However, the system does take between 1-2 years to achieve the required result. Typical costs of lingual braces in the UK is from £3500 to £4000 for treatment on either the upper or lower teeth.

Arguably the most popular cosmetic brace system on the market today is Invisalign. Clear, see-through aligners are used to slowly move the teeth into a more attractive position. Prices of Invisalign in a UK dental clinic can range from £3000 to over £6000 depending on the level of work required.
